MIB issues advisory to print and electronic media

An advisory has been issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) with regard to portrayal of rash, negligent and dangerous driving on television channels. They have been supported by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MRTH) in this endeavour.

The advisory discourages depiction of rash and dangerous driving in serials, news features and other programmes on television and the print media in favour of the public interest. As a result stills, images and scenes depicting rash driving will no longer be allowed in both the mediums.

In case the situation is unavoidable, it is a must for these representations to be accompanied by messages such as ‘over speeding kills’, ‘driving a two-wheeler without wearing helmet is dangerous and illegal’, ‘driving a four wheeler without wearing seat belt is dangerous’ etc.

As per the advisory, Doordarshan too has been instructed to follow the directions issued by the MIB and MRTH.
