Prime Video to unveil AVOD in the UK, US Germany, in 2024

Amazon Prime Video will introduce limited advertisements in the UK, Germany, and the US from 2024. The streaming service aims to keep ad volume significantly lower than traditional TV and other OTT platforms. Users seeking an ad-free experience will be required to pay an additional £2.99.
The rollout of "limited advertisements" is scheduled to commence on February 5 for UK and Germany customers and on January 29 for Prime Video users in the US, with no immediate clarity on the launch date for India.
Amazon assures its audience of experiencing "meaningfully fewer ads" compared to ad-supported TV channels and other streaming services. The monthly subscription fee for Amazon Prime remains at £8.99 in the UK, with no planned increases unless users choose the ad-free option.
Netflix introduced its AvoD model in select countries at the end of 2022. This strategic move aligns with industry trends, as streaming giants adapt their business models post-pandemic to bolster profitability.
In an earlier statement, Amazon announced that the company aims to have "meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required for Prime members. We’re not making changes in 2024 to the current price of Prime membership."
