Russia charges Google over ‘LGBT propaganda,’ &‘false information’ on YouTube

Alphabet's Google has been fined 3 million roubles ($38,600) by a Russian court for its failure to remove YouTube videos that were accused of promoting "LGBT propaganda" and spreading "false information" about Russia's military campaign in Ukraine, as per Russia reports.

According to Russian prosecutors, Google refused to take down several videos on YouTube, including one created by a blogger considered a "foreign agent" by the Russian government. The video discussed topics such as how same-sex couples raise children and the LGBT community in St. Petersburg. It is worth noting that the Russian subsidiary of Alphabet's Google filed for bankruptcy last year after its bank accounts were seized following a fine of 7.2 billion roubles ($92.6 million) in December 2021. The authorities claimed that Google had repeatedly failed to remove objectionable content.
