Samsung Galaxy and Hyundai win big at the News18 Tech And Auto Awards 2019
News18.com, one the fastest-growing digital news destinations of India, honoured the best of the best from the technology and auto industry at the third edition of its annual marquee Tech & Auto Awards 2019. Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ was adjudged Smartphone of the Year whereas Hyundai Kona Electric was announced as the Electric Vehicle of the Year. The gala award night celebrated the confluence of connectivity and mobility and was themed around ‘Sustainable Mobility’ and ‘Cyber Security’. Held in the midst of industry veterans, the event saluted the best of Technology and Automotive innovations in 2019 and felicitates the innovators, the path-breakers and high-achievers in their respective industries.
Gracing the event was Dr. Harsh Vardhan - Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Govt. of India while Shri. Nitin Gadkari - Minister for Road Transport & Highways of India and Shipping Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Government of India delivered a special address through video conferencing.
Sharing his thoughts Dr. Harsh Vardhan - Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Govt. of India said, “India is right now at a stage, be it IoT, Data Analytics, we are in a position that we can use them, have started to use them. The good news is that our CSIR labs have worked wonders in virtually every field that helps the common ways in big ways. The TN lab has done much research on the production of lithium ion batteries. Government will lay the foundation stone in Chennai for Rs 100 crore lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant, led by CSIR.”
Shri. Nitin Gadkari - Minister for Road Transport & Highways of India and Shipping Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Government of India said, “As an integrated approach to development, electric mobility is the future. This is the appropriate time, we have to use appropriate technology. We have got engineering capability and skilled manpower and we are also thinking of making electric highway. We want to use electric as a fuel on the highways. If we reduce our import by Rs 2 lakh crore, it is going to create crores of jobs for the Indian youth.”
Giving the keynote address on India’s Next Battlefield Would Be Cyberspace: Are We Ready?, Lt. Gen. Deependra Singh Hooda - (Retd. General Officer Commander-in-Chief, Northern Command, Indian Army) said, “Cyberspace is a battlefield, which is already here. Ahead of weapons of mass destruction and terrorism, cyberspace poses the highest threat worldwide. There needs to be much more engagement between the government and private industries. There is a need to look at security of personal data with great care. As per WEF, in 2018, the largest data breach in the world was in India. We also need to start looking at this issue from a national interest perspective. This is where the government can come together and protect our cyber space. The battle has to be fought by all of us together not just the men in uniform.”
Selected by a distinguished jury that included veterans from the Technology and Automotive industry, the high-brow event witnessed tech and auto brands like Apple, Xiaomi, Samsung, Asus, Maruti, Kia Motors, Royal Enfield and others battling it out for the coveted awards like Smartphone of The Year, Budget Phone Of The Year, Hatchback Of The Year, SUV / MPV of The Year and others in their respective categories.
