Star Jalsha launches Bhoomikanya on 30th July at 9 P.M.

Star Jalsha has been a pioneer for progressive storytelling on Bengali television over the past ten years. Consistent with its track record of creating pathbreaking content, the channel aims to take a major leap in storytelling with Bhoomikanya by delivering a spellbinding story high on gripping action and drama coupled with a strong social message. In a genre that is dominated by family driven plots, this show will be a clearly differentiated social drama mounted at a scale that has not been witnessed till now by Bengali viewers.

For this limited episode series, the channel has put together an ensemble cast of marquee actors who will be lighting up the small – screen with their performances. Sohini Sarkar will play the role of ‘Tarita’ while Chiranjeet Chakraborty and Kaushik Sen will be essaying the pivotal characters of Maheshwar and Chandrabhanu respectively. Tarita’s unflinching pillar of support will be played by Anirban Bhattacharya in the role of Ankush, a dashing and intrepid forest ranger who helps Tarita win over the support of her villagers and fight their cause.

Arindam Sil who is the Producer and Creative Director of the series, hasenthralled audiences with multiple successful movies high on action and drama like ‘Har Har Byomkesh’,’Dhononjoy’,’Ebar Shobor’ and ‘Durga Sohay’. Tabla ace Bickram Ghosh has scored the music for this thriller. The opening sequence has been shot in Cambodia and is expected to be unlike anything that viewers have experienced till now.

The show is a modern-day adaptation of Rupak Saha’s popular classic ‘Tarita Puran’. The story follows Tarita, a trained herpetologist, who returns to her country to find her home steeped in a vicious grasp of exploitation, trafficking, lawlessness and social chaos. Against this dismal backdrop, it is her extraordinary story of courage,resolve and fight for the powerless sections of society and for her mother nature and her ultimate triumph in restoring the balance. It is also a touching story of her personal fight for her identity against all odds.
