Sunil Kumar Gupta promoted as the new Secretary, TRAI

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has promoted Sunil Kumar Gupta as Secretary. Prior to this, he has been Principal Advisor (Broadcasting & Cable Services) at TRAI. He takes charge after previous Secretary Sudhir Gupta’s retirement on July 31, 2017. 

Gupta has experience spanning telecom licensing, regulations and implementation and has worked on issues ranging from broadband, FM radio, cable TV services to licensing, infrastructure sharing and IP addresses. 

He has earlier worked with TRAI from 2006-2011 and then from 2015 onwards. 

Gupta has also been a member of various high profile committees, including South Asian Telecom Regulatory Council (SATRC) for Department of Information and Technology’s ‘Internet Governance Working Group’, Convener of TRAI’s NGN Expert Committee, IPv6 Focus Group constituted by DOT and several more.
