Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya: A Modern Love Story with a Robotic Twist

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya!! Such a long title belonged to the '80s Bollywood. I can quote a few of them here : Paap Ko Jalaakar Raakh Kar Doonga, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Aata Hai, Aurat Pair Ki Jooti Nahi Hai, Zulm Ko Zinda Jalaa Doonga...

Wonder why the makers thought of this longish title in 2024, especially when their film revolves around robotics and artificial intelligence, where abbreviations and short keywords are the thing!!

Anyway, this is a love story between a robotics engineer Aryan (Shahid Kapoor) and a human resembling robot Sifra (Kriti Sanon) created by his genius aunt (Dimple Kapadia, still glam and perfectly cast). How Sifra adapts to Aryan's great Indian joint family obviously unaware of her non-human status, forms the major plot point.

Not too surprisingly, it is Kriti Sanon, who steals the thunder here and her climactic transformation brought the house down at the near full Citylight Cinema, Mahim where I saw the film on Saturday afternoon. Kriti is truly first rate and once again, proves her acting prowess after Mimi (2021). Comparably, Shahid is strictly okey dokey. In fact, he looks a tad old in a few scenes. The rest of the cast is fine.

After Rocky Rani last year, Dharmendra is again wasted in a thankless role. Today's filmmakers need to study his illustrious filmography before casting Dharam Paaji in such roles please!!

Technically, the film is a cut above the commonplace. The production values are first rate. A couple of songs are worth a hum. And assuredly, Shahid lights up the 'laal peeli ankhiyan' number with his electic dance moves. Superb!!

A nice one time watch and perfectly timed Valentine release; Teri Baaton mein... can be experienced and enjoyed in theatres. I surely did!!
