To ensure smooth migration, TRAI allows for uninterrupted TV service until 31st Jan

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has extended the deadline for consumers to select the channels of their choice under the new regulatory framework. The regulator spoke to PTI of India and gave a statement mentioning that broadcasters had requested some more time to allow a smooth and interruption free migration for customers.

As per the new framework consumers may select and pay only for the channels they wish to view. For this to be implemented, broadcasters are compelled to announce the MRP price for each of their channels. Ground level awareness regarding the new framework was very low and MSOs and LCOs feared a media blackout. TRAI announced that there would be no media blackout on 29th December which is the day for the implementation of the new framework as mandated by TRAI.

Now TRAI has mandated that all programming on channels and bouquets will remain uninterrupted until 31st January 2019 allowing time for customers to select their favourite channels by then.
