TRAI to hold open house discussion on TV tariff issues on Apr 21

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has invited industry stakeholders to participate in an open house discussion on ‘Tariff Issues related to TV Services’. The open house discussion will be held at Hotel Mayura in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on April 21, 2016 at 2 pm.

As is known, TRAI had issued a consultation paper on ‘Tariff Issues related to TV Services’ on January 29, 2016. The consultation paper seeks to carry out a review of existing tariff arrangements and developing a comprehensive tariff structure for addressable TV distribution of TV broadcasting services across digital broadcasting delivery platforms (DTH/ Cable TV/ HITS/ IPTV) at wholesale and retail levels.

The paper also aims to ensure that the tariff structure is simplified and rationalised so as to ensure transparency and equity across the value chain, and also reduce the incidence of disputes amongst stakeholders across the value chain, encouraging healthy growth in the sector.

Written comments on the consultation paper are invited from the industry stakeholders by March 4, 2016, while counter comments could be submitted by March 18, 2016.
