TV Show Review | Sur Kshetra: Impressive talent but more noise than singing!

If cricket is not enough,to evoke high emotion and drama, the weekend gone-by brought traditional arch rivals India and Pakistan head – to – head in a ‘musical battle’ in the form of Sur Khetra! With the hype in place, some one-of-its kind strategies being pulled up; the show was all set to deliver the ‘fighting spirit’ it promised through the promos.

While the voice over artist hitting the ‘high notes’ with ‘Jung ka elaan, Jung ka maidan, Jeet hamari hi hogi, Apne watan ki shaan’ gave a supremely dramatic opening, Sur Kshetra promises to keep the heat on between the nations born out of disparity! The production seemed a little over – the – top with a flashy set and swift cut-aways. A major let down came in with the anchor Ayesha Takia’s entry, who continued to disappoint throughout the show. The producers could have made a better choice!

The first episode introduces team India lead by a music director, singer, actor who fits the bill of ‘drama’ - Himesh Reshammiya. The selection panel chosen for the day included popular and renowned singers Alka Yagnik and Suresh Wadkar and well acclaimed music composer Ismail Darbar. The motive of setting a cross border musical show was also enhanced by the panel that kept reiterating that they're looking for a strong patriotic spirit. Reshammiya with his usual straight face just fails to impress time and again.

The talent pool collected for the show looked an edge more impressive than other shows, but with the high voltage drama in the show’s script’, it’s likely to divert audience’s attention from the singers.

Team Adgully gives the Indo-Pak musical extravaganza Sur Kshetra a disappointing 2 stars out of 5, only for the participants! The one hour and 30 minutes could have been reduced to make the opening episode crisp and attractive minus the overdone jingoistic drama! | By Ankita Tanna [ankita(at)adgully.com]
