Twitter celebrates the spirit of nationalism with a #RepublicDay emoji on India’s 68th R-Day

As India gears up to celebrate the 68th Republic Day, Twitter too adds to the tri-colour with the launch of a Republic Day emoji. The Republic Day emoji went live on 8:00 AM IST on Wednesday, 25th January and be available until Friday, 27th January 2017.

Indians across the world can now be a part of the Republic Day emoji celebration by using the hashtags #RepublicDay or #HappyRepublicDay or #RepublicDay2017 when composing a Tweet. The hashtag activation is also available in Indian languages for example in Hindi - #गणतंत्रदिवस, Bengali - #প্রজাতন্ত্রদিবস, Gujarati - #પ્રજાસત્તાકદિન, Kannada - #ಗಣರಾಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸವ, Tamil - #குடியரசுதினம், Urdu - #یوم جمہوریہ and Marathi - #प्रजासत्ताकदिवस. The emoji design is a beautiful interpretation of the Indian tricolour which will appear after the hashtag in the Tweet. The emoji gives Twitter users a fun way to Tweet, share and celebrate the historic day with Indians worldwide.

“Twitter is evolving as an everyday companion for its users. The platform is now synonymous to live, public conversations for interests, cultural moments and big public events taking place around the world. Twitter has been adding a zing to the celebrations with the emojis, that have become a popular form of expression on the platform, and are a fun way to be part of conversations across borders. We are thrilled to give users a new way to join in the public conversation on Republic Day,” said Mahima Kaul, Head of Public Policy & Government, at Twitter India.
