Watch the graceful Sharmila Tagore in 'Satyakam' only on Zee Classic!

Zee Classic, driven with its core proposition ‘Woh Zamaana Kare Deewana’, will telecast a classic, nationalist drama ‘Satyakam’ on Friday, 04th September at 5:40 PM. Based on a Bengali novel written by Narayan Sanya, Satyakam is about a stubbornly honest man struggling with hard realities. Satyakam is director Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s favourite movie among all the classics he has made. Repeating one of his favourite actresses, Sharmila Tagore, to perform a demure and credible performance, Hrishikesh Mukherjee also brought the two heavyweight actors such as Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar together. Infact, Dharmendra was so enamoured by the script that he agreed to produce it himself. Satyakam, compelled the audiences to find an answer to the inevitable question, 'In an imperfect world, is it possible to be an honest and unadulterated individual?'

The story unfurls in the pre-Independence era - 1946. Satyapriya (Dharmendra) an honest man is raised by his beloved and noble grandfather (Ashok Kumar) in an ashram. During college, he forms a good friendship with a jovial and affable Naren (Sanjeev Kumar). While Naren is unsure about his purpose in life, Satyapriya is definite about his decision to follow the straight and narrow path of unshakeable commitment to truth. Satyapriya finds a job after Independence, but is troubled when repeatedly asked to compromise his principles. While struggling between his ideals and conscience, he meets Ranjana (Sharmila Tagore), a young woman cast out of honourable society. Satyapriya marries the hapless girl, and soon a son, Kabul (Baby Sarika) is born. Sharmila carries with élan the role of a fallen woman, who becomes a part of an idealistic world overnight.
