Worldle acquired by the New York Times

The New York Times stated on Monday that it has purchased Wordle, a worldwide hit played by millions just four months after it debuted on the Internet, for a ‘undisclosed amount in seven figures’.

The game, which was created by engineer Josh Wardle, entails guessing one five-letter phrase per day in just six trials.

According to The New York Times, the game had only 90 players in early November after it was launched in October.

By early January, it had surpassed 300,000 users, and millions now play it on a regular basis, spurred in part by the ease with which spoiler-free results may be shared on social media.
