Asian Paints co-founder Ashwin Dani passes away at 94

Ashwin Dani, the Indian billionaire and co-founder of Asian Paints, passed away on Thursday. The company, in an official statement, confirmed this sad news, saying, "It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ashwin Dani, a Non-Executive Director of the Company, due to a brief illness. Ashwin Dani will be remembered for his significant contributions to the Company."

Dani had a long history with Asian Paints, having joined the company in 1968, which was founded by his father and three others back in 1942. He held various key positions during his tenure, including Vice-Chairman and Managing Director from December 1998 to March 2009, and Chairman of the Board and the Company from 2018 to 2021.

Born in Mumbai, Ashwin Dani pursued a Bachelor of Science degree from the Institute of Science at the University of Mumbai. He furthered his education with a Master's degree in Polymer Science from the University of Akron, Ohio, and completed a diploma in Colour Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic in Troy, New York. Before his association with Asian Paints, he worked as a Development Chemist at Inmont Corp in Detroit, USA.
