Facebook partners with Coursera

Facebook has announced that it will be partnering with Coursera, an American massive open online course provider founded in 2012, on two new career certificate courses which will focus on Marketing Analytics and Software Development.

Facebook has partnered with over 70 community organizations to expedite this program. These organizations include Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Urban League of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and more.

These new courses will build on Facebook’s pre-existing programs developed with Coursera, which included its certified course in digital marketing,  launched September 2020 along with its scholarship program for minority communities.

Through these initiatives, the companies aim to aid with the skills expected from the working class amidst the pandemic. As per the World Economic Forum’s 2020 “Future of Jobs” report, nearly half of all current employees will need reskilling by 2025 due to advances in technology, with the arrival of COVID-19 accelerating various elements within this, as we move to more remote-based and digitally-reliant positions.

With people leaning more towards new technology and employing their benefits to get work done quicker, Facebook has realized that it is essential to provide people with the skillsets they need to be well-equipped.
