SC seeks stricter TV regulations due to ineffective self-regulation

The Supreme Court has indicated its intention to provide directives for the oversight of television channels, given the ineffectiveness of their self-governance. The judicial panel emphasized the need for more stringent regulations, as non-compliance by TV networks would otherwise persist. Furthermore, the court has invited recommendations regarding the existing fine of Rs 1 lakh.

These remarks arose during the deliberation of an appeal by the NBA against a Bombay High Court judgment highlighting the inadequacies in the self-regulatory mechanisms of television channels.
