Spirit W | I am fortunate to be working with MediaCom: MediaCom's Radhika Rai

"I am not a feminist", she says laughingly when we go about with our series of questions. Radhika Rai, Group Head, MediaCom Delhi, is a woman who exudes immense passion for digital medium and on the whole integrating solutions for her clients.

Though Rai studied advertising in USA, she started her career actually in India with a few internships. "And while I also studied in USA I interned here and there and one particular in New York. There I started working with digital strategies and I initially started off with a very small company, a boutique firm, and we handled everything for LG electronics so which was a good learning experience. Gradually I moved to MediaCom's digital division which was called Beyond Interactive and now is known MediaCom Interaction. So I worked with MediaCom New York for quite sometime after which I took a transfer a year back to MediaCom Delhi," she adds.

When asked about some of the work that she is really proud of, she says, "I am really proud of the work that I did for LG because it was not an easy task handling everything like being their digital agency and being the go-to person for everything digital. So whatever I learnt, I learnt there. I am also proud of the work I did in MediaCom New York for GSK and Smirnoff. I worked on a lot of consumer insights which was a very exciting part of my job."

Though Rai is really inspired be some of the famous women leaders are country has produced over the year. "Women writers from Pakistan will be my recent inspiration," she points out.

So do women have an edge over men in media?

She smiles and adds, "Women just have a slight better intuitive thought prowess than men which might help them in decision making. But having said that there are some very intelligent men in the media business who have been making their mark. Besides media industry is an easy entry for women where we do not feel oppressed and we do not feel like we have been snubbed. I think media industry is one space like there are many other now where women are allowed to be at par with men."

As a must-see change in the media business Rai says that she would really like to see a lot of integrated agencies. "There is a lot of disparity between the creative agencies, the media agencies, the digital agencies etc and they are all completely separate. What would really help all of us in the long run would be to integrate all of the divisions and work as one unit. Clients really appreciate a one stop shop solution for their marketing problems," she adds.

While signing off Rai says, with her pleasant streak, "I am fortunate to be working with MediaCom where the environment is just so great and there is absolutely no misperception whatsoever."
