Twitter to inaugurate compensation programme for verified accounts

Twitter is set to inaugurate a compensation programme for verified content creators, allowing them to earn from ads featured in their replies. According to Elon Musk, the owner of the company, the initial payment block will amount to approximately $5 million. Musk specified in a tweet that only verified creators will be eligible for this opportunity, and solely ads directed at verified users will be counted.

Following Tesla CEO Musk's acquisition of Twitter last October, the platform encountered challenges in retaining advertisers due to concerns surrounding ad placement following significant employee layoffs. In response to these circumstances, Twitter aims to implement the aforementioned compensation programme within a few weeks, commencing with a noteworthy $5 million payment block.

It is worth noting that this strategic initiative coincides with the impending appointment of Linda Yaccarino, a seasoned advertising professional from NBCUniversal, as Twitter's newly appointed CEO. In March, Musk previously disclosed that the messaging service generates around 5 to 6 cents per hour of user attention, which could potentially escalate to 15 cents or higher through the inclusion of more pertinent and timely advertisements.
