Uncle Chipps carves an opportunity out of Sonam Kapoor's craving
Celebrities of all hues have been entertaining and engaging with their fans amid lockdown and #Stayathome with their videos and social media posts. Fans have been given a peek inside their homes, live and activities as the celebrities work out, do household chores, turn chefs, grooming advisors, gardeners, channel their inner musician, etc.
So, when they have a craving for some favourite food item amid lockdown and #Stayathome, what do they do? Turn to social media, of course. Recently, actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja put up a question on her Instagram Stories, asking netizens whether they knew how to get her hands on a packet of Uncle Chipps in Delhi. PepsiCo, which owns Uncle Chipps, promptly sent her packets of different flavours of the chips brand, catering to the cravings of the Bollywood star.
In response to this, Sonam put out another Instagram Story thanking PepsiCo with a picture of what she received.
Following this, Priyanka Chopra, too, put up a post on Instagram, expressing her craving for Uncle Chipps during this lockdown.
With the retail sector yet to open up completely and marketing & advertising activities muted, such instances provide an impromptu opportunity for brands to create engagement and find recall.
In this case, Uncle Chipps got an unexpected boost due to mentions made by Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, both of whom have a massive following on Instagram with 28.5 million and 53 million followers, respectively. While Sonam got her chips delivered at home, lot of her fans might have gone out to their neighbourhood shops to get their packs of Uncle Chipps.
Wonder if PepsiCo will deliver the brand on the doorsteps of the aam aadmi, should they express their craving for Uncle Chipps on social media.
