Zee Sangam to launch in a new avatar soon!

Zee Sangam the Uttar Pradesh/Uttarakhand focused regional news channel is being converted into India 24x7, a national Hindi news channel.

The new FTA news channel will be inaugurated on 24 October by Dr Subhash Chandra and will work in the same format as  ZMCL’s Hindi news channel Zee News.

One key element of difference between India 24x7 and Zee News is that Zee News competes with other top news channel like Aaj Tak, India TV etc., however India 24x7 will compete with the FTA channels like News Nation, India News and News24.

Content strategy of the news channel will be different from the news strategy being followed by other news channels.  Keeping the target audience in mind, they may look at showcasing part GEC content as well.

Vasindra Mishra who was heading Zee Sangam as Editor,  news operation recently posted on his twitter handle,  “Zee Sangam is being converted into a national channel.” However, there has been no announcement made on who will be heading India 24x7 as of now.

Zee Media Corporation Ltd has a strong footing in the regional market such as Zee 24 Taas(Marathi), Zee Sangam(UP & UK), Zee Madhya Pradesh (Chhattisgarh), Zee Marudhara (Rajasthan), Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal and Zee Kalinga (Odisha). Additionally it operates two regional news channels through its subsidiaries, 24 Ghanta (Bengali) through Zee Akaash News Pvt Ltd and Maurya TV (Bihar & Jharkhand) through Maurya TV Private Limited. It also holds two national news channels Zee News and Zee Business and the third one is in the way India 24x7.

ZMCL has also recently announced  its plan to launch its English news channel in February/March next year. Subhash Chandra had also said that the new English channels will be positioned as a technology driven channel.

Zee Sangam was earlier a mix of news and entertainment programming. It along with Zee Marudhara (soon to be Zee Rajasthan News) and Zee Kalinga was earlier part of Terrestrial Entertainment Network (Ten) format. Zee Sangam content later on moved to be completely news moving away from entertainment.
