BARC Wk 23 ratings: Strong show by FTA channels; ICC ties most watched

BARC ratings for Week 23 (June 3-9) [HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals] saw Free-To-Air (FTA) channels like Sony Pal, Rishtey and Zee Anmol climb up the ratings chart, even as Star Plus continued its lead. Colors, on the other hand, slid to its lowest ever position of No. 7 this week. 

Star Plus continued to lead the Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban in Week 23 with a gross viewership of 617,771, a decline from 648,274 recorded last week. 

Sony Pal, which had climbed up to the second spot last week, continued in this position in Week 23 as well. The channel reported a gross viewership of 539,747, a further decline from 591,764 recorded last week. 

Rishtey climbed up a notch and moved past Zee TV to reach the third spot in Week 23, garnering a gross viewership of 530,771, an increase from 503,431 recorded last week. 

Zee Anmol jumped a couple of notches from the sixth spot to fourth spot this week. The channel reported an increase in its gross viewership from 424,279 in Week 22 to 489,593 this week. 

Zee TV’s slide continued in Week 23, as the channel moved from the third spot to the fifth spot, garnering a gross viewership of 487,877, a decline from 528,060 recorded in Week 22. Two of its shows featured in the list of top 5 shows on Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban. After spending weeks at the top, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ slid to the third spot with 9,317 Impressions (000s). Talent hunt show ‘Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs’ was placed fifth with 8,839 Impressions (000s). 

Meanwhile, buoyed by the telecast of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, DD National made an entry in the list of top 10 Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban. The channel was placed at No. 6 in Week 23, garnering a gross viewership of 435,065. It comes as no surprise that the ICC match between India and Pakistan was the most watched TV event this week with 13,393 Impressions (000s). The India-Sri Lanka ICC tie was the second most watched TV event with 11,180 Impressions (000s). 

On the other hand, Colors slipped to its lowest ever position among Hindi GECs in Rural+Urban ever since BARC ratings became operational. The channel slid a couple of notches from fifth spot to the seventh spot in Week 23, garnering a gross viewership of 422,356, a decline from 444,063 recorded last week. Its show, ‘Naagin Season 2’, slid to the fourth spot with 9,092 Impressions (000s). 

Sony SAB slid a notch to No. 8 in Week 23, garnering a gross viewership of 418,957, compared to 413,475 recorded last week. 

Star Utsav, too, slid a notch to No. 9 this week, garnering a gross viewership of 323,416, a decline from 406,392 recorded in Week 22. 

Sony Entertainment Television slid a notch to the tenth spot, garnering a gross viewership of 322,318 in Week 23, compared to 363,729 recorded last week. 

Life OK, which was placed in the tenth spot in Week 22, moved out of the top 10 list this week.
