Mahindra Kabira Festival 2022 to bring out a soulful experience in Varanasi

The sixth edition of the Mahindra Kabira Festival is all set to resonate the fascinating ghats of the mighty Ganga. Scheduled to run from 18th-20th November, 2022 alongside the banks of the timeless river, the festival will celebrate the 15th century mystic poet Kabir with a musical jamboree.

Presenting a rich two-day programme, and an array of local cuisine, the festival offers an immersive experience inspired by saint Kabir’s teachings including inspirational music sessions by leading artistes and performers in a city older than time.

As always, the festival will celebrate Kabir’s philosophy and bring to music-lovers an unforgettable experience of listening to leading exponents of the Banaras gharana, folk traditions, sufi, dhrupad, sarod, sitar, dastan, instrumental in a programme which captures the pulse of India’s cultural matrix. Sessions on art and literature, specially curated heritage walks with famous local residents playing gracious hosts, and delectable local cuisine are all integral parts of the Mahindra Kabira experience.

Like each year, the festival will bring together unique collaborations of artistes, cultural organisations and Kabir stalwarts. This edition of the festival will feature an exemplary line-up of artistes and performers, including the first female Dastango, Fouzia Dastango, who will perform a Dastan-e-goi on Kabir’s life; the Manganiyar bhajan singer from Jaisalmer, Bagga Khan; the sarod maestro known as the great Indian musician, Pandit Vikash Maharaj from the Banaras gharana, along with his sons Prabhash Maharaj and Abhishek Maharaj; contemporary folk band, The Tapi Project; the melodious string duo, Shubhendra & Saskia Rao; and the stellar folk band, The Raghu Dixit Project. This year, we are also introducing an abstract art project in association with Ojas Art Gallery, which will be curated by the gallery’s director Anubhav Nath. The project will comprise of literature discourses on art, artists and their works along with exemplary art displays.

As a delegate at Mahindra Kabira Festival one will be looked after in the most regal style of classic old world hospitality: from the time one arrives till the time he/she leaves. The attendance to certain events like Morning and Evening Music across the two days is free and open to all. The Festival has in store Customised Delegate Packages which offer a curated experience. These meticulously planned one and two-day packages are an opportunity to live out the history of one of the world’s oldest cities and its powerful character while coming close to understanding the saint’s essentially syncretic path of life.

The detailed artiste line-up and programme will be announced soon.
