Parliamentary Standing Commitee summons Facebook and Google

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information and Technology has summoned the representatives of Facebook and Google in India today, to hear their views on safeguarding citizen’s rights and prevention of misuse of social media and online news media platforms. Earlier this month, it had summoned Twitter for representation on how to prevent misuse of social media and online news.

The government had asked social media platforms to comply with its new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 by May 26. All platforms except Twitter had complied with the IT Rules appointing a grievance officer for complaints.
