Threads sees 10 million users in 7 hours; Jack Dorsey calls it Twitter clone

Threads, Meta’s newly launched social media app, has seen ten million users signing up for the first seven hours of release, according to Mark Zuckerberg, in his first tweet in over a decade.
It is now available to download in more than 100 countries, except in the EU on account of regulatory issues. It was the other day that Mark Zuckerberg announced the initial version of Threads, an app built by the Instagram team, for sharing with text.
“Whether you’re a creator or a casual poster, Threads offers a new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations. We are working toward making  Threads compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet,” said a Meta communique.

However, the new app, which Zuckerberg has termed as a “friendly” rival to Twitter, has already courted controversy.
Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, termed Threads as a "Twitter clone." On July 6, Dorsey took to Twitter and expressed: "Instead of flying cars, we ended up with 7 Twitter clones."

Twitter's legal team dispatched a letter to Meta, accusing the tech giant of exploiting coveted proprietary knowledge sourced from ex-Twitter personnel to create Threads. In addition to the allegations, Twitter urged Meta to safeguard internal records regarding the ongoing dispute between the two entities.

Threads lets users to share their thoughts, visuals, and video content of up to five minutes in duration, accompanied by a capacious 500-character limit. Though Threads is a standalone app, users have to login via their Intagram account. Furthermore, users retain the liberty to curate their follow list, aligning it with their Instagram preferences.
