TV this week: A historic week for Star Plus; channel clocks a new high

The leader among GEC’s, Star Plus has touched a new high in Week 6 , 2014. The channel ratings have taken a massive leap ahead clocking 728 GVMs (gross television viewership in million), widening the gap with the 2nd placed Zee TV. Being the first week of the extended six-day weekday programming, Star Plus has also managed to break Star Sports’ record of 645 million TVTs that was recorded for the World Cup finale week. The Star Guild Awards which fetched 8.1 TVM too gave a boost to the channels ratings which has set a new viewership record in week 6.

A statement issued by Star Plus in this regard says, “It’s a historic week for Star Plus as we record the highest Weekly TVMs ever recorded in TV history by any channel with 728 TVMs!! The Monday to Saturday move to fiction lands exceptionally well with most shows indicating a growth in their ratings. Our shares hit a new high of 27% and Star Guild Awards have garnered 8.1 TVM.”

This week Star Plus and Zee TV are the only GECs to record increased viewership while the ratings of the rest indicate a downslide. Data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 6, 2014 (February 2 – February 8 ) for CS 4+, HSM markets indicates Star Plus to be the irrefutable leader followed by Zee, Colors, Life OK, SAB TV and Sony the pecking order of which remains the same as last week.

Ratings of Hindi GECs for week 6, 2014 is as follows (with previous week’s figures in the brackets):

Star Plus added 101 million TVTs this week leading the channel to record 728,231 GVTs (626,570) with a relative share of 28.72% (24.63%).

Zee TV this week again at no. 2 took a considerable leap in viewership and recorded 495,313 GVTs (467,656) with a relative share of 19.53% (18.38%).

Colors at no.3 witnessed a drop in viewership which has led the channel to record 424,431 GVTs (446,579) with a relative share of 16.73% (17.56%).
Life OK steady at the 4th spot too lost viewership in week 6 to record a gross TVT of 343,882 million against last week’s GVT of 386,659 million. The channel’s relative share this week is 13.57% (15.20%). 

SAB TV at no. 5 with a marginal dip in viewership and recorded a score of 291,599 GVTs (318,766) with 11.52% as against last week’s relative share of 12.53%.             

Sony ratings too dipped this week thus recording 251,650 GVTs (298,060). The channel that has been constant at the 6th spot indicates a relative share of 9.94% (11.70%) this week.

Sahara One with a downslide in viewership has registered 35,896 GVTs (39,172) in week 6, 2014 and remains at the bottom of the GEC list.

Coming to the most watched and popular shows on the Hindi GECs:

On Star Plus the Star Guild Awards registered a commendable score of 8063 TVTs while epic series Mahabharat telecast from Monday through Friday garnered 7,850 TVTs (7,136). The other shows on the channel registered the following ratings: Saathiya 9.8 (10.2) Saraswati 6.7 (5.9) , Meri Bhabi  4.8 (4.9), DABH  12.4 (12.0), and Veera 6.1 ( 5.7).

Among the most watched shows on Zee TV, Aur Pyar Ho Gaya registered a huge gain as the show recorded 5,129 TVTs (4,232), sitcom Bha se Bhade: (Sat-Sun) saw a decrease in viewership and registered 1,492 TVTs (1,645). Dance India Dance 4 recorded a score of 4,254 TVTs (3,766) on Saturday but apparently lost eyeballs as it recorded 3,132 TVTs (3,859) on Sunday. Ek Muthi Aasman 3.4 (3.1 ), Sapne Suhane 6.6 (6.8), Jodha Akbar  13.3 ( 11.1), Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se  6.1 ( 5.6 ), Pavitra Rishta 5.8 (5.4), Qubool Hai  6.4 ( 6.9 ),  Doli Armanon Ki  3.9 (3.6),DID 3.7 ( 3.8 ) Fear Files 2.7 ( 2.7), and  Buddha 1.0 ( 1.0)

India’s Got Talent on Colors which showcases immense talent from all parts of the country with decreased viewership recorded 5,876 TVTs (7,403). Another show popular with audiences on the channel , Comedy Nights with Kapil  saw a downslide this week as the show registered 7,300  TVTs (8,878). Following are the ratings of the other shows on the channel Sanskaar 1.7 (1.9), Simar 5.2 (5.7), Balika Vadhu 5.8 (6.5), Madhubala 4.6  (4.3),Beintehaa 3.5 (3.3), Rang Rasiya 3.0 (3.0),  Uttaran 3.6 (3.7) and Bani 3.8 (3.6)

On channel Life OK : Gustak Dil  2.4 (2.6), Mahadev 3.1 ( 3.5 ), Ek Boondh Ishq  2.7 ( 2.8), Tumhaari Paakhi 2.7 (2.9), Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai  1.9 (2.0)  Saavdhan India  3.6 ( 3.5 ),Shapath 4.5 (4.6 ), and Hatim 4.2 ( 4.1)

On SAB TV : Baal Veer  2.6 ( 3.1 ), Taarak Mehta 7.6 ( 8.9 ), Chidiya Ghar 3.9 ( 4.7),Jeanie Aur Juju 2.2 (2.5 ),Laapataganj 2.3 ( 2.5) and FIR 2.0 (2.3)

Meanwhile dance reality show Boogie Woogie Kids Championship (Sat-Sun) on Sony Entertainment Television lost viewership as the show registered 1,721 TVTs (2,758) in week 6. Other shows on the channel recorded the following:  Main Na Bhoolungi 1.2 (1.4),Ek Nayi Pehchaan 1.9 (2.3), Nandini 1.3 (1.6) Jee Le Jara 1.7 (1.9), Maharana 3.4 (3.9),Bade Ache 1.9 (2.1),CID 3.8 (4.1), Boogie Woogie 1.7 (2.8) Crime Patrol  3.1  (3.1) Bhoot Aaya 1.2 (1.3)

The GVTs of the various movie channels indicate following scores this week:

Zee Cinema viewership dipped this week registering 185,836 GVTs (198,751), Star Gold scores dropped even further this week and recorded 193,648 GVTs (202,153). Ratings of Movies OK picked up slightly and registered 134,400 GVTs (130,648). Movie channel &pictures the ratings of which saw a drop registered 83,202 GVTs (88,620). Zee Anmol ratings climbed this week to register 79,408 GVTs (65,415). Max viewership too saw an improvement and recorded 206,080 GVTs (192,801)  as per data recorded in week 6 of TAM 2014.
