TV this week: Colors strengthens its position to reach at #2 in Week 22

With the IPL fever finally concluding  in the last week of May , Week 22 saw the launch of three reality shows on 1st June 2013 and one fiction show on the Hindi GECs. DID Super Moms on Zee TV fetched 3 TVR over a period of 90 minutes, Colors’ celebrity dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, garnered 2.4 TVR over 150 minutes and Indian Idol Junior on Sony Entertainment Television scored 1.8 TVR on the day of launch. The premiere of the latest historical offering from Sony viz. Maharana Pratap on 27th May recorded 1.5 TVR in the opening week.

The IPL tournament this year generated an average cumulative ( Max and Sony Six combined) TVR of 3.1 in Hindi speaking markets (HSM) and 3 in C&S 4+ all India which is  much lower than the 3.45 HSM average TVR that was reported last year and thus  the lowest in the six year history of IPL . On the brighter side also to be noted is that IPL Finals played on 26th May 2013 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings recorded 7.3 TVR in HSM markets and 6.9 TVR in All India CS 4+.

As per TAM viewership data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 22 (May 26 – June 1) for the CS 4+, HSM markets, as expected Star Plus the leader among GECs has only gone on to strengthen  its position in Week 22 to be followed by  Colors which too is making it’s mark thus  taking second position this week.  Zee TV, which earlier shared the second spot with Colors is now at  No. 3 this week. Sony continues to remain at No. 4 followed by SAB TV at No. 5 and Life OK at No. 6. Shows on these three channels  have gained viewership in Week 22.

Star Plus which has continuously been increasing its margin over the other GECs and is steadfast in the no. 1 position  gained 11 points in the week post-IPL . The channel garnered 249 GRPs this week (last week 238).

Colors too has picked up to  strengthen its position . By  recording 186 GRPs (last week 184), t he channel has overtaken Zee TV by 10 points to be no.2 this week

Zee TV at no. 3 recorded 176 GRPs this week (last week 184).

On the back of their new shows Indian Idol Junior and Maharana Pratap Sony Entertainment Television gained  5 points to record 154 GRPs this week (last week 149).

SAB TV too has added 10 points this week to garner 145 GRPs (last week 135).

With Mahadev ratings having picked  up this week Life OK gained 7 points to garner 137 GRPs this week (last week 130).

Following are the current week’s  ratings of individual shows on Hindi GECs :

Continuing to grab eyeballs Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus saw a gain this week with a rating of  4.1 TVR (3.7 TVR last week). Another one of their popular shows Yeh Rishta too saw an increasing in ratings  with a 3.7 TVR (2.8 TVR last week). The third favourite with audiences Pyaar ka Dard too witnessed a jump garnering 3.6 TVR (2.9 TVR last week). Fiction show Veera fetched 2.6 TVR (2.1 TVR last week).

The new talent hunt-cum-reality show India's Dancing Superstar on the channel recorded  1.5 TVR on Saturday but  dipped to 1.6 TVR (2.6 last week) on Sunday.

Jhalak Dikhlaja Jaa on Colors garnered 2.4 TVR on Saturday thus helping the channel maintained their position this week. Madhubala on the channel gaining popularity albeit at a slow pace  has recorded 2.6 TVR (2.3 TVR last week).

Qubool Hai the fiction show on Zee TV recorded a rating of 3 TVR (2.5 TVR last week) and Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke grew slightly  to 2.2 TVR (2.0 last week). A decline is seen in the ratings of Punar Vivaah which recorded 1.8 TVR (1.9 TVR last week ). Although  aired on Sunday, Hindi feature film 'Kai po Che' managed to fetch only  0.8 TVR on  26th May 2013.

CID , the  longest running crime series on Sony Entertainment CID registered a 2 TVR (1.8 last week); on the other hand ratings of Crime Patrol on the channel witnessed a downward trend as it registered a 1.4 TVR (1.8 last week). Comedy Circus showed a drop of 0.1 and this takes Sony's tally to 1.3 TVR (1.4 last week). The new historical show Maharana Pratap gained to fetch 1.5 TVR (0.7 last week). Thus if observed closely some fiction shows have managed to hold on to their viewers while others saw a dip in viewership during the week.

Fiction comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on SAB TV continues to lead with 3.1 TVR (2.8 last week). With the special appearance of actor Dharmendra on the show, who promoted his movie Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 helped the show to fetch  2.4 TVR this week . Wah Wah Kya Baat Hai saw a marginal increase to record 0.9 TVR (0.6 last week).

Mahadev on Life OK continues to lead, with a TVR of 2.4 (1.9 last week). Savdhan India saw an improvement with 1.3 TVR (1.1 last week).
