TV this week: IPL influence continues to affect GECs except Star Plus

With the IPL grabbing eyeballs, audiences are giving the Hindi general entertainment channels a miss. The Hindi GECs have taken a backseat where viewership is concerned. But inspite of this broadcasters of IPL , Sony Max and Sony Six too have seen a dip in their ratings  in comparison to the ratings of IPL 2012.Max has recorded 211 GRPs  while Six has recorded 57 GRPs in the third week of the IPL6 adding to a total of 268 GRPs . But this figure still does not match up to the 344 GRPs that Max recorded in the IPL season last year.

This could be attributed to  the Phase-II of digitization taking place simultaneously alongside  the IPL season which has seen a downward trend in  all major 1mn+ markets . Experts are of the opinion that either TAM has not been acquiring the required data or another reason could be  that viewers are yet to switch over to set-top boxes and hence unable to get signals to watch the popular IPL.

Star Plus is still the leader among GECs according to viewership data sourced from TAM subscribers for the CS 4+, HSM markets, in Week 16 (April 14 – April 20) of TAM 2013.  Zee TV, Colors and Sony have recorded minimal growth in their GRPs and are at second third and fourth place respectively in Week 16 .

Star Plus ratings dipped by 19 points in Week 16 but still precedes the other channels with a wide margin . The channel has recorded 233 GRPs this week (last week 252).

Zee TV has added 6 points to last weeks ratings to  record 169 GRPs (last week 163).

Colors has added 11points in Week 16 bringing it  once again to  3rd position The channel has garnered 167 GRPs (last week 156).

Sony Entertainment Television now at no.4 has recorded 165 GRPs (last week 160).

SAB TV on the other hand lost 14 points to  record 123 GRPs (last week 137).

Life OK has recorded 103 GRPs this week (last week 111).

No change is seen in the TRPs of the top three serials of the most watched shows. Diya Aur Baati Hum maintains its number one position with 3.6 TVR. While, Pyaar Ka Dard and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai maintain second and third positions with 3.2 TVR and 3.0 TVR respectively.
