TV this week: Sony gains big, but remains at #5

Most reality and non-fiction shows on the Hindi GECs saw a drop in viewership as per TAM TV ratings for week 40. Although Sony Entertainment Television moved up to 5th position this week the channel was unable to overtake Life OK which has further strengthened its position at No. 4.

Colors launched its most eagerly awaited thriller series 24 this week and recorded a viewership of 3.4 million on the launch day and 2.8 million for the second episode of the show. A viewership of 2.2 million indicates a positive response in the Metro and 1mn+ markets thus contributing to 63 per cent of the overall viewership of the show and 47 per cent of the overall HSM markets. Also to be noted is the fact that with the format of 24 more acceptable to upper class audiences SEC AB  contributed to a viewership of 1.4 million on the day of launch. The show garnered 3,134 TVT’s on Saturday and Sunday.

The immensely popular and longest running crime series ‘C.I.D’ on Sony Entertainment Television re-established it's pole position last week, as the most-watched show among Hindi GEC’s, by garnering a thumping 7048 TVT (in millions), beating rival shows like ‘24’ which garnered 3134 TVT.  Statistics indicate that CID is among the topmost shows on Indian television and last week’s episode reached across 962 Avg audiences, thus unseating the premiere of the much marketed '24', the Indian adaptation of the international format. CID on Sony, is the only crime fiction show which has been running continuously for 16 years keeping millions of viewers riveted to its shows with its lead protagonists solving unique cases across the nation.

As per TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 40 (September 29 – October 05) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus, Colors and Zee TV have held steadfast to their No. 1, 2 and 3 spots, respectively. Life OK at no.4 was followed by Sony and SAB TV at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Following are the details of GVT’s recorded by the Hindi GECs this week :  Star Plus is still the leader at no. 1 although the channel witnessed a decrease in viewership thus reporting 501683 GVTs (506,317) GVTs. Colors ratings surged to register a score of 476063 GVTs  (458409) and remains in the 2nd position . Viewership of Zee TV continuing in the 3rd spot increased and recorded 415793 GVTs  (384,111) . In week 40 Life OK continues to be in the 4th position and notched up it’s ratings to record a score of 347291 GVTs  ( 334306) .  At 5th spot Sony has seen much improvement and recorded 323337 GVTs (286083). Meanwhile SAB TV ratings dipped and registered 317170 GVTs  (331,772) thus bringing the channel to 6th position this week.  Viewership of channel Sahara One saw a commendable increase as it  registered a  score of 33222 GVTs (26838)  .

The two most popular shows on Star Plus,  Diya aur Baati Hum and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai both notched up their ratings to record 9911 TVTs (9614) and 7614 TVTs (6328)  respectively.  Pyar Ka Dard Hai saw a huge rise in viewership as it recorded 7708 TVTs (7191) while Saathiya notched up marginally to register 7237 TVTs (7101). Presently in it’s third week the epic series Mahabharata once again lost eyeballs  to record 4909 TVTs (5518)

Reality show Bigg Boss 7 gained marginally this week and registered 4835 TVTs (4811) while long running series Balika Vadhu ratings plunged to record 6759 TVTs (7797). Meanwhile decrease in viewership led Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon to record 4519 TVTs (4743). This week Uttaran ratings picked up to record a score of 4056 TVTs (3464)  and comedy show Comedy Nights with Kapil viewership has dipped considerably to register 4462 TVTs (6804) . The premiere of new offering ‘24’, the Indian adaptation of the international format on the channel garnered 3134 TVTs in week 40 of TAM 2013.

Zee TV’s fictional series Qubool Hai notched up to record 6003 TVTs (5511) . Pavitra Rishta too followed suit to score 4646 TVTs (4421). Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke saw a huge increase in viewership and garnered 6490 TVTs (5343). The interesting track and storyline     of historical show Jodha Akbar which is getting better with every passing week has led to the series garnering a score of 9337 TVTs (8027). Viewership of drama series Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se too is picking up and has registered a score of 5696 TVTs (4675) . Dance reality show DID – Dance ka Tashan on the channel lost viewership to register 3,870 TVTs (4,088) on Saturday and 3,707 TVTs (4,290) on Sunday.

The popular mythological series Mahadev on Life OK has notched up points and recorded 4009 TVTs (3623) TVTs in week 40.   Do Dil Ek Jaan ratings increased marginally to record 1884 TVTs (1725). The other offerings on the channel, namely, Savdhan India ratings dipped to record 2479 TVTs (2563) while Shapath lost viewership and registered 3637 TVTs (3729). New show on the channel Ek Boond Ishq grabbed eyeballs this week taking its tally to 2,635 TVTs (2,351).

The long running crime series CID on Sony Entertainment Television witnessed a huge surge  in it’s ratings and recorded a score of 7048 TVTs (5505) this week.  In contrast Crime Patrol on the channel saw a decline in viewership and scored 3882 TVTs (4789).  Historical show Maharana Pratap once again notched up its ratings to generate 3057 TVTs (2840). KBC on the channel lost points this week to register 3911 TVTs (5176) in Week 40.

Fiction show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on SAB TV which remains the undisputed channel leader continues to surge ahead and has this week garnered a score of 8489 TVTs (8096) . Chidiya Ghar too gained points to record 3817 TVTs (3176) Lapataganj gained viewership this week and registered a score of 2380 TVTs (2015) and Baalveer too notched up to garner 2925 TVTs (2835).

In the movie channel's genre: Zee Cinema saw a marginal dip and registered   198401 GVTs (201334) ; Same goes with Star Gold ratings of which too dipped to record 174671 GVTs (183757).   Movies OK on the other hand saw an increase in its ratings and recorded 126462 GVTs (107863). Viewership of the new entrant among movie channels, &pictures has plunged to record 61530 GVTs   (67942) while Max saw good viewership and recorded a  score of  220318 GVTs  (207046) as per data recorded in week 40 of TAM, 2013.
