TV this week: Star Plus, SAB TV surges ahead!

Viewership data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 21, 2014 (May 18 – May 24 ) for CS 4+, HSM markets indicate that ratings of most GECs failed to pick up and  registered decline in viewership as IPL season 7 has relentlessly continued to grab the attention of television audiences. The only channels to gain this week are Star Plus and SAB TV with the former on the verge of touching the 700 million mark. While Life OK lost maximum viewership this week, Zee and Colors registered marginal decline with a loss of 7 million TVTs each. No change is seen in the pecking order which has remained constant since several weeks now. With Colors scores diminishing steadily the channel is widening the gap with Zee TV and is now in close competition with 4th placed channel Life OK.

Star Plus steady at the top of the GEC chart witnessed a climb in viewership this week to record   699034 million GVTs (gross TV viewership in million) as against 680,792 million GVTs recorded last week. The channel garnered 18 million TVTs this week   

Zee TV which continues to be at 2nd position lost viewership as it recorded 386568 million GVTs (last week 394,023 GVTs) thereby registering a loss of 7 million TVTs
Colors Viacom 18 in the 3rd spot is losing viewership on a weekly basis.  The channels ratings dipped further as it recorded 359,877 million GVTs as against last week’s 367,024 million GVTs

Life OK too lost eyeballs in week 21 as the channel registered 332,689 million GVTs (last week 353,689 million GVTs) and has lost 21 million TVTs. The channel remains in the 4th place.

Sony Entertainment Television recorded no change in its ratings in week 21 as the channel has maintained stability with 312,543 GVTs (last week 312,921 million GVTs) and continues to be at no. 5 in the GEC list.

SAB TV at the bottom of the list at 6th spot recorded a score of 266,714 million GVTs (258,013 million GVTs) in week 21 and witnessed a gain of 9 million TVTs
Following is the market-wise program performance of Hindi Movie channels in Week 21 2014:

Z Cinema gained viewership marginally as it recorded 188,748 GVTs as against last week’s 185,199 ; Sony Max with its IPL telecast registered a huge climb and recorded 582,127 GVTs (445,130 GVTs) ; &pictures too gained this week and recorded 95,214 GVTs (88,326 GVTs) ; Movies OK ratings dipped slightly this week as it registered  132,202 GVTs (133,665 GVTs) ; UTV Movies too lost eyeballs as it recorded 73,514 GVTs (76,251 GVTs) and the same holds good for Star Gold which recorded 191,534 GVTs as against last week’s 217,742 GVTs.

Following are the weekday/weekend toppers on the various channels:-

Star Plus

Diya Aur Baati Hum ratings increased this week to record 9971 TVTs (9484 TVTs). Saathiya Saath recorded 8585 TVTs (9791 TVTs) ; Epic series, Mahabharat garnered 6371 TVTs this week (5963 TVTs) ; Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fetched 6432 TVTs (6275 TVTs).  Saraswati Chandra recorded 4922 TVTs (last week 5842 TVTs) ; Veera clocked 6150 TVTs (last week 5348 TVTs) and Pyaar Ka Dard Hai on the channel fetched 6042 TVTs (last week 5569 TVTs); Yeh Hain Mohabbatein fetched increased ratings as it recorded 6768 TVTs (last week 5523 TVTs)

Also to be noted is that Yeh Hain Mohabbatein on the channel has moved up to 6.8 tvms at 11 pm, with a market share of 41% in the slot.

Zee TV

Jodha Akbar ratings saw a downslide as it recorded 7947 TVTs (8948 TVTs) ; Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se recorded 4258 TVTs (4661 TVTs) ; Doli Armanon Ki registered 3152 TVTs (3195 TVTs) ; Qubool Hai recorded 3351 TVTs (3574 TVTs) ; Sapne Suhane recorded 4079 TVTs (4976 TVTs) ; Ek Mutthi Aasmaan registered 3041 TVTs (3457 TVTs) and DID Li’l Masters 3 recorded 3447 TVTs this week as against last week’s score of 3337.

Colors

Reality show Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi ratings improved and recorded 5469 TVTs in week 21 (5310 TVTs). But Comedy Nights with Kapil recorded a dip in ratings with 5628 TVTs (5930 TVTs) ; Beintehaa ratings improved as it registered 2854 TVTs (2835 TVTs) ; Uttaran recorded  3249 TVTs (3707 TVTs ), Bani – Ishq Da Kalma recorded 2484  TVTs (2547 TVTs) ; Rangrasiya garnered 2603 TVTs (2563 TVTs ); Madhubala fetched 2527 TVTs (2757 TVTs) and Sasural Simar Ka registered  3975 TVTs ((3719 TVTs)

Life OK

Tumhari Pakhi recorded 2656 TVTs (2391 TVTs); Ek Boond Ishq –2379 TVTs (2383 TVTs), Savdhan India - 2290 TVTs (2395 TVTs) ; Adventures of Hatim – 2140 TVTs (2498  TVTs) ; Shapath - 2308 TVTs (2614 TVTs) and Mahadev recorded  1841 TVTs (1739 TVTs)

Sony Entertainment Television

CID recorded 3159  TVTs (3300 TVTs) ; Maharana Veer Pratap – 3123  TVTs (3222 TVTs), Ek Nayi Pehchan-  999 TVTs (1192 TVTs), Encounter –1219 TVTs (1313 TVTs); Both shows, Crime Patrol which registered 1940 TVTs as against 2090 TVTs last week and  Entertainment Ke Liye which recorded 2084 TVTs (2698 TVTs) witnessed a drop in viewership in week 21

SAB TV

Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma lost marginally as it registered 5558 TVTs (5585 TVTs); Chidiya Ghar – 2158 TVTs (2138 TVTs) ; Lapataganj recorded 1550 TVTs (1429  TVTs) ; Jeanie Aur Juju registered 1434 TVTs (1342 TVTs) & Bal Veer recorded 2343 TVTs (2597 TVTs).
