Year 2013 has been witness to a host of new shows that have been launched lately . Promos have been airing non-stop informing viewers of the upcoming shows in store for them in the new year . Adding one more to a string of new shows, Sony Entertainment Television in keeping with its promise of constantly innovating has come up with a refreshing one with a unique title viz. ‘Amita Ka Amit’.
It is a love story set against the backdrop of Mumbai and revolves around two ordinary and average Gujarati youngsters Amita and Amit and their dreams which remain unfulfilled. While Amita is a 22 year old Arts graduate, Amit Shah is a 24 year old stock broker. They are two ordinary people with extraordinary expectations from their spouses. Circumstances bring them together to entry matrimony but only to ultimately realize that they don’t fit into the image of their dream partners.
Amita Ka Amit is produced by Siddharth Kumar Tewary whose last show was ‘Navya’ on the small screen. The project is extremely close to Siddharth who has spent a lot of time on the show.
The cast comprises of rank newcomers, mostly from the Gujarati theatre. Some senior actors too like Meenal Pendse, last seen in Imagine TV's Me Aaji Aur Saheb and Jyoti Gauba, currently seen in Zee TV's Phir Subah Hogi and Love Marriage Ya Arrange Marriage will be seen essaying pivotal roles in the show. Newcomers Chandani Bhawnani and Nishad Vaidya portray the lead roles along with Neha Saxena and Raksha Desai.
Today every youngster, wherever they are or however average they may be are on the hunt for the spouse of their dreams ! Same goes for parents who too want the "perfect spouse" for their kids!
Amita Patel (Chandni Bhagwanani) a rotund , plump and innocent looking youngster is the main protagonist of the show. She is portrayed as a shy young Gujarati girl . Both she and her sibling Atul Patel share a close bond. Atul’s close and best friend Suraj helps Amita pay for a makeover she indulges in at a mall . Subsequently the one hour episode deals with Amita’s crush and infatuation with Suraj and the way she tackles the situation to win over his affections. She is all the more excited when he invites her out on a coffee date . Atul warns her that his friend is only interested in getting his money back and has no intentions of getting involved with her Amidst all this, we meet Amita’s three best friends who make efforts to cheer her on and encourage her to take the friendship further but with disastrous results!
It is a pleasant change from the typical saas-bahu shows and their misunderstandings which reign supreme on television nowadays. Though it was a good change for audiences from the run of the mill plots the entire episode seemed dragged at times while only dealing with Amita’s determination to befriend Suraj. Her parents made minimal appearances throughout the show.
The show portrays the typical young generation who are internet savvy and fitness freaks. We see Amita on her cycle trying to shed weight and looking for hints to loose the extra flab on the net . She feels guilty while indulging in desserts but gives in to temptation all the same. Suraj too has been shown as a health conscious person who uses the treadmill to keep himself fit.
Comic situations provided the much needed entertainment in the show. It is a show which will certainly appeal to the young who can relate to the situation in which Amita and Amit finds themselves in. The story ended at a point when viewers would be eager to know Suraj’s intentions and whether he actually reciprocates Amita’s feelings. It would be interesting to keep a tab on the developments in Amita’s life and know where the story is heading!
Adgully gives the ‘illusion vs. reality’ show Amita Ka Amit 3 stars out of 5 stars.
