BARC Wk 11: Hindi GECs record growth in viewership as people stay at home

With people confined to their homes due to the Covid-19 crisis, television viewership has seen an upswing. Along with News, Movies and Kids genres, Hindi GECs have also seen growing traction. As per BARC data for Week 11 (Saturday, 14th March 2020 to Friday, 20th March 2020), it was growth time for Hindi GEC viewership. Now, the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) has stated that channels from India’s four leading broacasters – viz., Sony Pal, Star Utsav, Zee Anmol and Colors Rishtey – will be available to all viewers across the country as free-to-air channels on all DTH and cable networks for a period of two months. 

All Platforms 

Dangal continued in the numero uno spot, garnering a gross viewership of 1,230,937, followed by Sony SAB, which recorded a gross viewership of 731,221. Star Plus was placed third with a gross viewership of 652,299; Colors followed in the fourth spot with a gross viewership of 600,185. Big Magic made it to the fifth spot with a gross viewership of 562,982. The channel was followed in the sixth spot by Zee TV, which garnered a gross viewership of 529,681. With a gross viewership of 484,119, Sony Entertainment Television was placed in the seventh position; while Star Bharat was placed in the eighth spot with a gross viewership of 291,818. Star Utsav and &TV were placed in the 9th and 10th spots, respectively. While Star Utsav recorded a gross viewership of 186,452, &TV’s gross viewership stood at 167,510. 

Four shows of Dangal dominated the Top 5 most watched shows on All Platforms – Mahima Shanidev Ki (No. 1), Devi Adi Parashakti (No. 2), Baba Aiso Var Dhundo (No. 3) and Pyaar Ki Luka Chhupi (No. 5). The shows recorded the following impressions:

Mahima Shanidev Ki – 15,664 (000)

Devi Adi Parashakti – 14,645 (000)

Baba Aiso Var Dhundo – 14,395 (000)

Pyaar Ki Luka Chhupi – 12,903 (000)

With impression of 13,841 (000), Zee TV’s long-running show, Kundali Bhagya was the fourth most watch show on Hindi GECs (U+R) All Platforms.
