TV Show Review | Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012, low on drama, high on variety, looks promising!

After a hiatus of two years, one of India's oldest singing reality show 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' is back in a new avatar on Zee TV.

Schedule to be on air on the weekends, the 2012 chapter features a panel of eminent ‘mentors’ as they would like called. These include Bollywood music composer duo Sajid-Wajid, ace music composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan and bassist- lead vocalist of Rock band Indian Ocean member Rahul Ram. The new format of the show claims to be a treat for music lovers from all age groups.

17 years, 16 season and 1076 episodes later, the show which is said to be the hunt for the best singer of the country has managed to keep the excitement and enthusiasm alive among the contestants and viewers as well.

With the opening episode of this season, viewers are assured of some supremely gifted talents being brought on to the stage. While the opening montage and the voice-over artist’s script were heavy on drama and emotion, the judges entry was made to look grand.

This season the mentors are not the only people judging the contestants. During the audition, the live audience present is also a judging panel who are supported with voting meters to score the contestant immediately after his/ her performance.

The first episode had very good participants perform not only Bollywood Hindi music, but songs ranging from Indian classical, Punjabi Sufi, to Indian Folk and western classical. The chemistry between the judges is effervescent which is evident from the ease and comfort they have while sharing lighter moments in between the serious business of choosing the best from the best!

The art direction for the auditions looks simple yet appealing, similarly, the cinematography is also uncomplicated with easy cut-away. The background is well synchronised with the expressions of the mentors and the contestants and adds that touch of humour. The overall packing of the show is sober; pleasing to the eyes yet manages to keep the audience hold onto the show.

While the new season of the musical hunt is going heavy on other marketing practices with viewer engagement and involvement as their motives with more technology and more knowledge dissemination, we belive that the crux of the show – the contestants and their talent is what will get viewers glued to TV sets and gain loyal viewer base.

Team Adgully, gives the new season of HERO Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012 a decent 3 stars out of 5. No drama, no noise, we believe that the show will give only good music! | By Ankita Tanna [ankita(at)adgully.com]
